About

O arquiteto Fernando Maculan é arquiteto e urbanista graduado pela Escola de Arquitetura da UFMG (1992-1997), sócio-fundador da MACh Arquitetos e idealizador do coletivo LEVANTE.

Maculan atua em uma vasta gama de projetos cuja aproximação com a arte e com o design tem lhe proporcionado contínuo aprendizado e renovação. Fruto de criação multidisciplinar e colaborativa, seu trabalho fundamenta-se na elaboração de conceitos coerentes com as especificidades do lugar e das pessoas envolvidas; no reconhecimento de tradições e projeções de futuro com ênfase na diversidade.

De 2006 a 2010, integrou o Laboratório PIRACEMA de Design – coletivo que pesquisa a forma na cultura brasileira e organiza oficinas e vivências de trocas de saberes de profissionais de vários campos com artesãos nas várias regiões brasileiras. Da experiência com comunidades que vivem em locais distantes no vasto interior do Brasil, surgem oportunidades que levam Fernando Maculan a atuar em comunidades urbanas de periferias e favelas, criando o background para a posterior fundação do coletivo LEVANTE.

O Coletivo LEVANTE reúne arquitetos e profissionais de topografia, engenharia, design e paisagismo em um laboratório de ideias que tem a favela da Serra, onde vivem quase 100 mil pessoas, como seu principal território de atuação.  Desde 2017, em parceria contínua com o Centro Cultural Lá da Favelinha, o coletivo tem se consolidado como um modelo possível para a realização de projetos e obras pela formação de redes e relações afetivas, ativando culturas e potências latentes das comunidades através da arquitetura.

A MACh é uma empresa de arquitetura e urbanismo cuja prática é fortemente marcada pela relação da arquitetura com a cultura, em que se destaca a atuação em projetos para o museu aberto Inhotim, desde sua criação, em 2006. Desde 2019, a MACh atua na ressignificação da comunidade de Córrego do Feijão, fortemente impactada pelo rompimento da barragem de Brumadinho. O projeto intitulado Território-parque envolve um estenso programa de espaços públicos e coletivos e aponta para o potencial de uma possível reconciliação entre comunidade e natureza.

The architect and urbanist Fernando Maculan graduated from the UFMG School of Architecture (1992-1997), founding partner of the architecture and urbanism studio MACh Arquitetos, in 2006, and founder of the group Coletivo LEVANTE, in 2017 - a voluntary team of several professionals focused on architectural projects in the peripheries and favelas.

Maculan works on a wide range of projects that associates architecture, art and design, leading to a continuous learning and renewal of the architectural practice. As a result of this multidisciplinary and collaborative practice, his work is based on the elaboration of concepts coherent with the specificities of the place and the people involved, in the recognition of traditions and projections of the future, always with an emphasis on diversity.

From 2006 until 2010, he was a part of the PIRACEMA Design Laboratory – a team of professionals from various fields that researches the diversity of Brazilian culture and identity through its production of artisanal artifacts. The group organized several workshops and knowledge exchange experiences between the team and artisans from various Brazilian regions and biomes, such as Amazônia, Mata Atlântica and Cerrado. From the experience with communities that live in the vast interior of Brazil, opportunities arise leading Fernando Maculan to work with urban communities in the periphery and favelas. Later, that work would become the background for the foundation of the Coletivo LEVANTE.

Coletivo LEVANTE brings together architects and professionals in topography, engineering, design, and landscaping in a laboratory of ideas that has the Aglomerado da Serra, a favela where almost 100,000 people live in Belo Horizonte, as its main area of ​​activity. Since 2017, in continuous partnership with the Cultural Center Lá da Favelinha, LEVANTE has been consolidated as a possible model for carrying out projects and works, through network formation, affective relationships and friendship, activating cultures and latent communities’ potential using architecture.

MACh Arquitetos’ practice is strongly marked by the relationship between architecture and culture. Since 2006, MACh stands out participating in the work on signage, architectural and exhibition design projects for the open-air museum Inhotim. Another important project has been taking place since 2019, in the community of Córrego do Feijão, heavily impacted by the Brumadinho dam failure. The resignification project entitled Territory-park involves an extensive program of public and collective spaces and points to the potential reconciliation between community and nature through design.
