Contrary to the original design of Oscar Niemeyer, in which "a theater inside the park" was conceived, the “Palácio das Artes” cultural complex – which holds the theater - is now largely unconnected to the Municipal Park of Belo Horizonte, being directly linked to Avenida Afonso Pena and completely surrounded by railings.
This proposal for the new gallery emphasizes the transverse axis through the center of the foyer towards the park, where Oscar proposed that the main entrance of the theater should be located. Rather than being used as an entrance the new gallery project focuses on the integration between architecture and landscape as originally intended by Niemeyer.
